Education is the driving force behind Carroll County's skilled workforce, and local colleges are a crucial component of industry success. With a high school graduation rate above 96 percent and a college-going rate of more than 70 percent, the eight area colleges are filled with Carroll County students.
Carroll County is home to several large companies with a combined workforce of almost 12,000 workers. Key industry segments are healthcare and medical devices, advanced manufacturing, transportation and logistics, and chemical, plastics and rubber production.
Tennessee is leading the way in education reform by increasing the number of Tennesseans with college degrees or certifications through the Tennessee Promise and Tennessee Reconnect. With more than 40 degree programs and a powerful online presence, Bethel University works with local businesses to help employees complete degrees. The Tennessee College of Applied Technology in McKenzie has low teacher-student ratios and degrees in high-demand programs such as welding, machining, mechanics, industrial maintenance and telecommunications, and partners with local industries to provide specific training.
Area postsecondary options include Bethel University, Lane College, the University of Tennessee at Martin, Jackson State Community Colllege, Union University, and three Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology.
